Love You Freely Give

One thing I love to do more than anything is to write poetry! It's such a release for me, and though I hardly ever let anyone read what I write, I am going to post this poem. I wrote it back in November, and it sums up what I hold as the most beautiful truth in my life. It's called "Love You Freely Give."

"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
My love is mine to give. Lord, you don't want robots, you don't want laws and lies;Lord you want a willing heart, not legalism in disguise.
I've tested the world out, trying to feed this empty soul. And I've found that time after time, only one love can make me whole.
I know the truth yet I wander, I see the light yet I turn.I turn to sin and my flesh's desires, but I'm left empty and for you I yearn.
I come back empty handed. I come back for the perfect grace I cheat.I wait for a whipping or an angry God, and instead you wash my feet.
Your remedy for sin is mercy. your "punishment" for wandering is love. And the world, blind to the enemy's existence, shakes their fingers to you above."
How could a good God allow this?!" and "What kind of love is that?"But if they truly understood the cross, on their faces they'd fall flat.
Your hands were pierced through fully, your head bled from mockery and thorn; This was not by the Father's forcing. No, Jesus you chose of man to be born.
You cried out in pain "it is finished." We had murdered the innocent lamb. The Father had to turn his back, for your pain pained the great I Am.T
he veil was torn and the ground shook- your battered body placed in a tomb. But you rose again conquering death, and the enemy met his doom.
"Why is your God so hard to find?" People mock me with a bitter stare. But why do they expect to find you, God, if a willing heart is not there?
God will run to wherever you are, if for a moment, a willing heart you live.True love requires freedom, & so my love to Him I freely give.

  1. Laura this is BEAUTIFUL!!! I love so many lines in this, but especially "I wait for a whipping or an angry God, and instead You wash my feet." And "But why do they expect to find You, God, if a willing heart is not there?" We only need faith as small as a mustard seed--Holy Spirit, pierce us and give us willing hearts...
    So grateful for you!!
