"Do you not know? Have you not heard? .... He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers." -Isaiah 40:21;22
I can't read this verse without it breaking my heart for people I love that are around me every day. My good friends, professors, and the guy who makes my coffee perfectly at Starbucks. The people around me everyday that don't know and love Jesus as their savior. People hear, but they do not listen. Their hardened hearts have numbed their minds.
The Lord is the most famous being in the universe. Pondered by all, loved by many. As I read the Old Testament about things God said, did and commanded, I am in awe. The Lord created man. All wonder about Him, and He...wonders about me. He knows me better than I know myself. He loves me faithfully and consistently. He is the ultimate, and yet He cares about and knows each individual person to ever walk the planet... you can't make that up.
One day believers and non believers alike will all stand before God. I believe that we will then realize every time He pursued us relentlessly on earth daily. What perfect God leaves a perfect heaven to be born in a stable? To become a carpenter? To be scorned by men? Beaten and hung on a cross? A God of love. If you don't "get" God, you haven't truly looked at and understood the cross. This eternal being- Father, Spirit, and Son, 3-in-1, Alpha and Omega, Emmanuel- He wasn't just a "character" in history. He wrote history. Changed it. Created it. And see's its beginning and its end. All ponder His name and His existence, and He ponders you.
We're each created with unique purposes. But our ultimate purpose and joy is to love God because He first loved us ('We love because He first loved us' -1 John 4:19). I'm thankful for Jesus, coming and dying and rising again so that God's just wrath for sin is covered by the cross; I may now live and fellowship and love the Lord, my God. He is worthy to be praised, now and forever! He is due glory. That is a truth greater than any "law" we know on earth. Truer than physics, gravity, or theorems.
"Day and night, they never stop saying 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.'" -Revelation 4:8
