So, tomorrow something crazy happens...I leave for New Zealand. Have you ever taken a trip that seems surreal? I personally have never left the country...so this feeling is a little new for me! There have been months of planning going in to this little four week trip.
Four weeks. That's all. It doesn't seem like that long when you say it, and I'm sure once I get to New Zealand, it'll fly by. But at the moment, it seems like an EXTREMELY long time. Despite my nerves, I am super excited, I mean, how could I not be? For those of you who don't know, I am going for a study abroad trip with school!
I could write about my expectations, itinerary, or the 16 hour plane ride from LAX, but that's not that interesting to write or read about... However, when doing a little Internet research earlier, I came across a website that has some New Zealand slang.
One of my fears: saying an American slang word that means something completely opposite in New Zealand. I'll keep you guys posted on that one. It's funny how two countries that both speak English can have such different words and terms. But then again, NZ is literally half way across the globe, so how surprised can you really be?
Anyways, there are TONS of hilarious slang words there I found online; I'll list my top ten favorites::::
1.Brown eye - to flash your naked butt at
someone, American "mooning"
2. Chuddy - chewing gum
3. Dunny - toilet, bathroom, lavatory
4.Knackered - exhausted, tired, lethargic
5.Shark and taties - fish and chips
6.Barbie - barbecue
7.Sunnies - sunglasses
8.Kiwi - New Zealander
9.Wobbly - to have a tantrum
10.Scarfie - university student
Hahah...it's the little things in life, right?
Anyways, I have to get up early so I'm calling it a night! I wish I could update this blog while I'm in NZ, but since we'll be traveling so much I'm not going to have good access to wifi. I'm taking a technology break for the month...sounds pretty refreshing! I'll have tons of pictures, and hopefully some entertaining stories when I return! God bless you guys! Enjoy the next month :)
